Scientific Steering Committee Subsidence

The Wadden Academy established an independent Scientific Steering Committee to review, provide guidance and advise on the outcome of the Long-term subsidence study in the Wadden Sea Region. The first two-day meeting of the Steering Committee was held at the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences in Amsterdam on the 18th and 19th of April.

New thesis: Fishing for Food

Porpoises are the most common small cetacean species in the Netherlands' coastal waters. The numbers and distribution of porpoises have radically changed in recent decades. The question is: what is driving the change? Within this context, doctoral candidate Okka Jansen studied the feeding ecology of the porpoise in the Netherlands' coastal waters.

Publication: Ourcoast experiences related to governance of the Wadden Region

which lessons can be teased out from the OURCOAST database on the topic of governance of similar environments in Europe? The Wadden Academy asked ARCADIS to explore the database and to come up with suggestions for good governance of the Wadden region.

New Publication: The Wadden Sea Region A World Class Cultural Landscape

This publication of the Wadden Academy and the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) informs a broader audience of regional and local policy makers and managers, museums and information centres, and historic associations in order to expand the appreciation of the Wadden Sea Region as a world class cultural landscape.

Report, presentations and photo impression trilateral symposium

The trilateral Scientific Wadden Symposium took place from 21 to 23 November in the WTC Leeuwarden. It brought together over 200 scientists, policymakers, managers and other stakeholders from the entire Wadden Sea region, Korea and Australia. A report, all presentations (PDF and Video) and a photo impression are online now.

Geoscientific Research in the Wadden Sea Region: Special Issue NJG online

This special issue of the international scientific journal ‘Netherlands Journal of Geosciences’ includes papers presenting different aspects of geoscientific research in the Wadden Sea Region, as well as management aspects concerning the use of the subsurface of the Wadden Sea area. All papers are available online.
