European Commission: towards pan-European joint programming

A major step towards joint programming in marine and maritime sciences was carried out on 16 September when the European Commission issued its recommendation on the research joint programming initiative ?Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans

In its recommendation, the European Commission recalls a number of facts demonstrating the added-value and the need for joint programming in the marine field. It mentions for example the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, meant to deliver the environmental pillar of the future maritime policy for the EU, and stating that at community level, support for associated research should be continuously enshrined in research and development policy.
