Trilateral Research Agenda officially presented

Earlier this day, Jouke van Dijk, chairman of the Waddenacademie, presented on behalf of the trilateral scientific community the Trilateral Research Agenda to the Wadden Ministers of Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands at the Thirteenth Trilateral Governmental Conference on the Protection of the Wadden Sea.

The Trilateral Research Agenda was developed by the scientific community from Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands in a joint effort for identifying common future challenges and for developing and implementing comprehensive approaches to trilateral research.

The joint scientific community proposes a choherent Trilateral Research Agenda for the whole Wadden Sea Region, with the aim to maintain natural and cultural values and to find a sustainable course for natural, societal and economic developments.

The basis of the Trilateral Research Agenda for the Wadden Sea Region originates from the declarations following the Trilateral Ministers meetings in 2010 and 2014.

In 2015, the Wadden Sea Board appointed three renowed scientists (prof.dr. Jouke van Dijk from the Netherlands, dr. Mette Guldberg (later replaced by prof.dr. Jesper Bartholdy) from Denmark and prof.dr. Karsten Reise from Germany) to take the lead in developing a Trilateral Research Agenda for the Wadden Sea Region and its World Heritage Site.

Earlier this day, the trilateral Ministers adopted the Trilateral Research Agenda in the Declaration of Leeuwarden. This guarantees that further steps to implement the Trilateral Research Agenda can and will be taken in the next coming months.
