The Radboud University is looking for a PhD Candidate: Boundary Arrangements in Flood Risk Management

Dijk op Ameland

Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, you will undertake research for the STW-funded Perspectief project ’All Risk, Implementation of new risk standards in the flood protection programme’.

The starting point of the project is the implementation of new risk standards in Dutch flood risk management, which requires coordination across policy domains, such as spatial planning, and water and nature management.
Examples of interdependencies between these policy domains are the relationship between foreshore management in the Wadden Sea and the design of flood protection infrastructure, and the development of multifunctional flood defences.

The main aims of the project are (1) to gain a better understanding of the performance of institutional arrangements for cross-sector coordination (boundary arrangements) in flood risk management, and (2) to develop and test boundary arrangements for the implementation of the new risk standards.

You should be ready and willing to use a qualitative research approach with an explicit action research component. You should also be committed to developing theoretical knowledge about boundary arrangements in flood risk management.

You will contribute actively to the further development of research on the relationship between cities, water and climate change, which is carried by the planning group.

Application deadline: 20 February 2017
