In december 2016 the Waddenacademie — together with the German Nordfriisk Instituut (in Bredstedt) and the Danish Fiskeri- og Sjøfartmuseet (in Esbjerg) — organised the Symposium Waddenland Outstanding  on the history, landscape and cultural heritage of the Wadden Sea region. During the symposium, over 30 presentations were delivered to an audience of about 150 participants. The selected contributions  are included in this book and offer a unique overview of the state of the art in cultural-historical research in the Wadden Sea region.
