Pre-announcement: 13th Symposium Waddenacademie

10 and 11 December 2014, the Waddenacademie and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO; the Dutch research council), organise a symposium focussing on Wadden Sea research.

On December 10, the symposium starts with a key-note presentation by John Dagevos (Researchcoordinator/Project manager Tilburg Sch(Telos, University of Tilburg) about the Wadden barometer, which is being developed by Telos and IMSA in cooperation with the Waddenacademie to monitor ecological, economic and social-cultural sustainability in the Wadden area. After his presentation, the scientific pro’s and con’s of the Wadden barometer and the policy relevance will be discussed.

In the afternoon, the focus will be on science-policy interactions in the Wadden Area within the National Sea and Coastal Research Programme (Dutch: ZKO). We are glad that Matthias Ruth (Northeastern University Boston) will introduce this subject as keynote speaker.

Via a joint call with the German Ministry of Education and Research BMBF, four trans-national projects on the bio- and georisks of the Wadden Sea were funded in 2011. On December 11, we will hear the results of these projects, from researchers of both the German and Dutch side. We have the honour that Prof. Anna Occhipinti (Università degli Studi di Pavia) and Prof. Mark Stacey (University of California, Berkeley) will join us as keynote speakers on that day.

Please reserve 10 and 11 December 2014 in your diary!

Location: Grand Hotel Post-Plaza, Leeuwarden
Registration options and a preliminary program will be made available online via the Waddenacademie late September.

We kindly request that you forward this advance notification to all persons for whom this symposium may be of interest.
