Working towards a sustainable socio-economy in the Wadden Sea Region
With the expertise of the Waddenacademie and the monitoring data of WaLTER, the sustainability indicator system of the WSF will be analyzed and improved to measure developments in ecology and socio-economy and its coherencies.
A set of about 33 indicators on a multi-level system provides data about developments since 2003 with regard to e.g. demography, labor market, economic resilience, tourism, air quality, etc. All indicators are valid and comparable on a trilateral scale, which allows a unique assessment of sustainability in the entire Wadden Sea Region.
Representatives of the above mentioned bodies agreed at a meeting in Groningen, to set up a joint project on the elaboration of causes and effects of regional and local developments, to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of the three pillars of sustainability.
Stakeholders and decision makers will be encouraged to use the provided expertise in order to take measures to keep the Wadden Sea Region environmental sound, economically healthy and socially vivid.
