Application to Wadden Sea World Heritage Summer School 2026 now open

Applications are now open for the Wadden Sea World Heritage Summer School 2026, held from 17 to 28 August 2026 in Lauwersoog, Netherlands. This international programme invites Bachelor’s and Master’s students to explore how sea level rise is reshaping the ecological and cultural values of the Wadden Sea. Building on the success of previous editions, the Summer School offers a unique chance to study climate impacts directly within this globally significant coastal landscape.

Bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, participants will engage with leading experts in ecology, environmental science, social science, cultural heritage studies, and climate adaptation. The programme includes:

  • Introductory lectures from renowned researchers and practitioners
  • On site field visits across the Dutch Wadden Sea region
  • Collaboration with local stakeholders to explore real world challenges and solutions
  • International teamwork to address transboundary issues in a changing climate

The summer school titled “Wadden Sea in Transition – Navigating Rising Seas Across Nature, Culture & Economy” invites students to investigate how rising seas influence habitats, cultural landscapes, and human–nature relationships across the region.

The programme is open to Bachelor’s and Master’s students in fields such as marine environmental studies, marine resource management, tourism management, sustainable development, geography, and related disciplines. Priority is given to students from Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands, with two spots reserved for international participants from countries with which the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation has a Memorandum of Understanding (Mauritania, South Korea, United Kingdom).

The application deadline is 3 May 2026, and participation is limited to 18 students.
