Jens Enemark was secretary of the TWSC and head of its executive bureau CWSS (Common Wadden Sea Secretariat) in Wilhelmshaven (Germany) from 1987 until 2004.  In the book Enemark looks back on more than a quarter of a century of trilateral cooperation, meant to protect and enhance the environmental qualities of the Wadden Sea. He considers the inscription of the Wadden Sea on the  UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009 ‘the pinnacle of our (CWSS) efforts’.
At present, we are faced with the dilemma how to keep up the Guiding Principle and Outstanding Universal Value of the Wadden Sea whilst society has to go through a cohort of socio-economic transitions (e.g., with respect to fisheries, energy, tourism and agriculture). The experiences and insights as being laid down by Jens Enemarek can help us to prepare for and overcome expected and unexpected hurdles when facing these future challenges.
The first copy of the book was presented by Jens Enemark to Karin Lochte, chair of the Wadden Sea Board on 26 August 2021 on Wadden Sea day in Wilhelmshaven.
